BOOK REVIEW: THE MAHARAJA’ S FAKE FIANCEE

BOOK – The Maharaja’s Fake Fiancee
AUTHOR – Alisha Kay
GENRE – Fiction (Romance + Adult )
PAGES – 180
FORMAT – Ebook
REVIEW – Veerendra Singh, the Maharaja of Devgarh, have everything in his life, girls went crazy for his looks and bank balance and cross their limits now and then to woo him but his heart holds someone else and that someone was none other than his sister Jessie’s childhood bestie Nivy Sharma.
However, the problem was that Nivy left Devgarh 5 years ago to become an actress and she too achieved her dreams but Nivy came back to her hometown after losing her earnings in a film that took a back seat due to lack of funds.

And also in Devgarh, her life was not easy, her mom forced her to settle down and marry and for this, she fixed a meeting of her daughter with Dr Jay that too at the Palace.

When Nivy accidentally met his Highness, Veer, hell loose broke, they ended up kissing each other, though the kisses were meant only to confuse the people forced on them by their mothers.
And then came a plan in Veer’s mind which was a fake engagement.

But destiny has other plans for these two. Read this salacious novel to find out how long Veer and Nivy fake this engagement.

This book is a full-on entertainer, from the very first page till the end it didn’t allow me to shift my gaze and I was glued to it till the last.

The story is written at a fast pace, however, the thing which put me off was the narration style picked by the author. The story is being narrated from both Nivy and Veer’s POV where Nivy’s part is written in the first person whereas for Veer’s part the author has used the third person narrative.

Strong characters created by the author help to understand the story properly. And the bond shared by the Royal family is something to look for.
Now, for the erotic part – the way everything is described and mentioned can easily turn anyone on 🤪

I enjoyed reading this book so much and would love to read more by the author.
If you are looking for a hot, humorous and sensual rom-com then do pick this one.

Q. Please introduce yourself.

I am an IT professional and currently working in Siemens India. I am inclined to writing in the form of poetry, quotes and stories. I have authored 2 books and have co-authored many anthology books. I have contributed to e-magazines as well. This boosted my recognition and thus I won many awards recently and also got featured in news portals.

My other interests are photography, mandala art, travelling, jewellery making and reading.

Q. What your book is about?

The book ‘Extra Ordinary’ is a short story collection of 12 insightful and emotional stories about people. They have themes like love, friendship, dreams, passion and a lot more.

The book ‘Eternal Trudges’ is a collection of 45 poems that deep delve into various facets of life. It holds couplets, quatrains, acrostics and free verses.

Q. How do you develop an interest in writing, is this something you always wanted to do?

I have been writing for more than 8 years now. Writing is a different world where I can wander limitlessly, it frees my mind and renders me boundless.

I have had this dream of getting published since I was into writing consistently and it could happen recently.

Q. Other authors and their work that inspires you?

I am inspired by the books of Robin Sharma – Discover Your Destiny, Who Will Cry When You Die?, A Monk Who Sold his Ferrari to name a few. They are insightful and deep, they open various doors of perspective.

Yes. I am working on another book, I will post the details in the coming future. Besides, two of my books are underway and will be published soon.

Q. What makes your book different, why you think a person should read it?

The books are suitable for people who look for refreshment, inspiration and perhaps a new outlook on life and the events that revolve around life. Sometimes we miss appreciating and inculcate learnings from everyday chores. Sometimes we see only from fixed, predetermined angles and perspectives. But it takes just a small effort in changing those perceptions and see life from a different purview.

Q. What was the role and reaction of your family when you started writing?

They were supportive. A bit apprehensive, but they eventually appreciated my hard work and my inclination to the literary world.

Q. A fun fact about you which no one knows.

I love ‘paan’ ice cream. When I buy it, I get an entire tub of it. And then I start nibbling and relishing it while watching Korean Dramas. That is something I love to do especially in summers.

Q. Say something from your side for your readers.

I plan to consistently write and reach out to the readers. I believe when my writing and its quintessence reaches out, its purpose is fulfilled. So I am utterly grateful to the readers and wish they could feel my intent and purpose and much more that is scribbled in the books.

OF RAINS AND MORE

“As the oil splattered
And the batter-fried
With onions and potatoes
The monsoon outside
Seemed perfect.”

BOOK – Of Rains and More
AUTHOR – Arti P.
PUBLISHER – Notion Press
GENRE – Poetry
REVIEW – Ahh, rains who don’t love rainfall? Rainy day is a favourite day of any reader, isn’t it? While sipping steaming tea we read a book and it will be cherry on top if the book is about rain. Don’t you agree with me?
I came across one such book (of which I am going to share my review with you all), Of Rains And More was written by Arti P.

If Rains and More is a compilation of 55 poems composed primarily on the theme of rain but the book also has some poems on diverse topics like lockdown, love, Hindu gods etc.
The poems are short and easy to read. No such tough or complicated words are used by the author which makes it ideal for beginners.

The poems are written in such a delightful way that as soon as you finish one you will find yourself reading the other.

I like reading every poem but my personal favourite is Himalayas
A city girl to the core
The Himalayas shocked her
So much peace and quiet
She could hear her own heart beating
No wonder Gods reside here.
I could completely relate to this one, this particular poem reminds me of my Amarnath trip and I am quite sure that you too will relate with one or two poems.
And yeah how can I forget ‘Book Lovers’ a poem which represents the bibliophiles appropriately.

If you love reading poems or if you want to start reading poem then I definitely recommend this book to you.

BOOK REVIEW OF BLEAK HOPE

#qotd – Recommend some poetry books.

BOOK – Bleak Hope
AUTHOR – Anwesa Chaudhary
FORMAT – eBook
GENRE – Poem
REVIEW – I believe one of the best ways to express ourselves is a poem, you can share your feelings and thoughts with minimum words.

Bleak Hope is a collection of 29 thought-provoking poems written on different themes viz, war, death, environmental degradation etc.
Why did I call these poems thought-provoking, because topics like the above mentioned are coming from the mind of a teenager. We as adults are exploiting the earth in every way possible without giving a second thought about its impact on the younger generation and it should be we who must think about these things and as per my opinion, Anwesa through her poems want us adults to understand the gravity of the situations and work hard to make this earth a better and safe place for the coming generation.
The language used is easy to understand with some big words used here and there which make this book more beautiful.

You ask which one is my favourite, well it’s quite difficult to tell which one I like more. Should I name ‘That Night’ as my favourite where Anwesa has narrated how a young girl saw a child beggar on the street but when she woke up she realised it was a mere dream or ‘The Unwanted’ which talks about the refugees or ‘Real Men don’t hurt’.

What I like about all the poems that they all started with one or the other issue but end with hope which makes the book title appropriate.

I recommend this book to all poetry lovers.

BOOK REVIEW – THE PARADISE CONFLICT

BOOK – The Paradise Conflict
AUTHOR – Abhishek Ghosh
GENRE – Fiction(Science)
FORMAT – Ebook
REVIEW – We all are well aware that our natural sources are available in limited quantities yet we have exploited them to their fullest and even not halting and this exploitation has a direct and negative consequence on our environment, the ozone layer is depleting, the temperature is rising but are we stopping ourselves? Are we doing enough to save our mother earth? What will happen when all the resources will be drained out?
The Paradise Conflict, written by Abhishek Ghosh, covers the above-mentioned topic. This Science Fiction takes us into a future where the air is this much polluted that a person can’t go out without a face mask and water is available only for special ones.
These special ones call themselves Imperials. And in the Imperial Regime everywhere is only chaos, adults are being taken to Labour camp to work for the Imperial, already scarce resources are distributed among the supporters of the regime.
But where there is evil good also prevails, to stop and finish the Imperial Regime there is a group of Rebels who wants to save mother nature and humanity at the same time and for this, their leader is in search of a lost Paradise. And in her quest loads and loads of people supported her, willingly give their lives in combatting with Imperial Troops.
Is The Paradise Conflict all about this or does it have more in store for its reader?

The book is jam-packed with action, adventure and yeah also love, where the whole plot is about finding Paradise at the same time a love story also takes its shape when two enemies come together for a noble cause.
Written in simple language, this book will surely have a long-lasting impact on you, it will make you ponder about your acts that are damaging our environment.
What I really like about this book is that the story is not written in any rush, everything was connected and the suspense it builds was amazing, I was not at all expecting the climax the way it is in the book.
This book ends with a cliffhanger and has a second part that is not out yet so yup you have to wait to see the ending.
Now, the negative part of the book, well the writing style is weak and there are some typographical and grammatical errors.

Overall, this is a thought-provoking story with a deep message which will keep you hooked till the last page.

BOOK REVIEW OF TWENTY SOMETHINGS

‘Friedship is a lot like listening to your favorite song. No matter where, when, and how many times you press pause, you still can press play and continue to hum along as though you’d never paused!’

BOOK – Twenty Somethings
AUTHOR – Sudham
PUBLISHERS – Leadstart Inkstate
GENRE – Fiction(Romance/ Contemporary)
PAGES – 284
REVIEW – Set in the era of the ’90s, Twenty-Somethings shares a delightful tale of two youngsters Rishi and Nitya.
Rishi an 18-year-old who do not have a clear vision for his life joins an Engineering College in Mandya(Karnataka) to do something remarkable in his life. On the other hand, Nitya senior to Rishi in college was an ambitious girl for whom career comes first.
When Rishi and Nitya met sparks flew but they kept the things at the base as Nitya was in a relationship with her classmate DJ.
But one inter-college competition changed many things in their lives. Time flies, both parted their ways after the end of their college lives without any expectations from the other.
However, destiny has stored something else for both of them and their road crossed once again after almost a decade.
Twenty-Somethings will take you back to the time when India was seeing major changes in the IT sector, will surely give a 90s kid nostalgia and will remind you of your college life.
Third-Party narration used in the book helps you to discern the story in a better way and at the same time makes it more realistic.
Though the end was quite predictable for me yet the way the characters are developed, mention of major events of the late 90s and the suspense build by the author is commendable.
If you are looking for a light read with a pinch of drama then you must pick this book.

TIL DEATH WE DO PART

BOOK – Til Death We Do Part
AUTHOR – Bruno Beaches
PUBLISHERS – Austin Macauley Publishers
GENRE – Fiction
PAGES – 223
REVIEW – Don’t we all desire a partner who could love us at our worst, a partner who could accept us with all our shortcomings, a partner who could forgive us even when we broke his/her heart?
I don’t know about you but there is a lady named Delilah who was blessed with such a loving and caring spouse and this book narrates their story.
Til Death We Do Part shares a simple story of a very simple man – Pablo Pinkerton, a hardworking police officer who had everything in his life, a loving wife, four amazing kids, a cute grandchild and a job he loves the most.
But a transfer to a different department distorts his life forever and completely.
False allegations were made by one of his client which leads to a court case where he was convicted for a crime which he never committed. And as if this was not enough, his wife started behaving abruptly, first she distanced herself from Pablo and then asked him for the divorce.
Paolo was least bothered about his job and his criminal record but it was his wife who broke his heart into a million pieces but yet he didn’t lose hope and tried his best to bring her back.
I have never seen a spineless and ungrateful character like Delilah, she didn’t even have any idea what she wants in her life. She neglected Pablo for a person who doesn’t love her back. And oh my God, Pablo is a darling, I feel pity for him.
The characters are well developed, even the story seems realistic, in a world where money rules love has no space.
The narration is easy to understand and it will keep you hooked till the very last page, however, at certain points, the story feels a little bit dragged.
Overall, this is a simple yet amazing tale that ends with a cliffhanger and has a second part. I highly recommend this book to today’s generation who needs to understand the real meaning of love.

Weaved Emotions

REVIEW OF DEAD MEN TELL TALES

BOOK – Dead Men Tell Tales
AUTHOR – Dr B. Umadathan
TRANSLATOR – Priya K. Nair
PUBLISHER – Harper Collins
GENRE – Non-Fiction(Memoir)
PAGES – 339
REVIEW – Dead Men Tell Tales is the English translation of the bestselling memoir of Kerala’s famous forensic surgeon, Dr B. Umadathan, originally written in Malayalam as Oru Police Surgeonte Ormakkurippukal.
The book provides a short intro to Dr Umadathan’s education and his perspective on the importance of police surgeon in solving criminal cases. He also emphasized the importance of studying deads.
In his memoir, the author revisits some of his shocking and spine chilling cases like the Chako Murder masterminded by Sukumara Kurup; the sensational Pollakkulam case and the Panoor Soman Case.
This book will explain to you at what length a criminal can go and what efforts are made by the police surgeon to provide aid to police in catching the culprit.
What I like about the book are the narration and the language. The author has narrated each case in such an intriguing manner that you would want to read more and more. Also, he has used such simple language that even a layman who does not have knowledge of scientific terminology can understand everything easily.
So if you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes or love reading detective novels then you should give a chance to the memoir of Sherlock Holmes of Kerala aka Dr Umadathan.
